Whispers in the Wind Industry

It is time to pass few bits of information which got into my ears which will be presented in this blog and updated frequently.

Some newly entered wind energy companies have recently become very active of which few have their own full fledged production facility others partly or wholly buy from others.

Few who has full fledged operations such as Winwind, Shriram EPC-Lightner are geared up and raring to go. Others like Wensersys (Kalyani group) and Regen Powertech who has partial production capacity like WTG, Gears are on the move. This means the only blade manufacturing facility LM will be on the high.

What goes up comes down and it always tend to go up. So the wind starts blowing watch it and make use of it.

Post your comments and share your ideas too.

World largest Wind Turbine 5MW?

One more news which has slipped past me is the largest wind turbine of the world. I still thought it was RE Power with that giant 5MW WTG was the largest, yet again I was proved wrong. Enercon has installed 11 WTG of 6 MW capacity as per the latest news of http://www.qualityinwind.nl/ dated 13-06-09.

This model is known as E-126 for further details also check on http://www.thewindpower.net/wind-turbine-pictures-223-enercon-e126-6000.php
Hope you liked this information

Lift or drag? One Japanese firm says "both"

I was of the belief that lift alone contributes towards wind power generation, but this product by one Japanese says it uses both lift and drag forces.

They claim that the same wind is used twice to generate power for details click the title which will take you to their web site.

Constraints of renewable energy

Click the chart for enlargement

All power generating plant has a limitation which is the ratio of actual power produced to that of its total capacity.

Capacity factor =
Actual Output / Installed Capacity X 100

The actual output will be taken as the average power generation over a specific period of time say year or month.

In thermal / nuclear power plant this can be regulated based on the peak demand load and cost economics. For example gas turbine plants are switched on to meet peak demand load as cost of running the same being high. In simple terms more fuel more output. Here more fuel means more power and hence the output can be regulated.

In renewable energy the fuel namely wind, solar can not be controlled hence its output depends on its availability. Even with hydro plant the water level either has to maintained at a minimum / maximum level and other aspects like irrigation needs to be taken care.

The chart says it all , renewable energy needs to be harvested / transmitted to end user and must have good penetration so that any imbalance in one area can be offset by the other. When it rains heavily normally wind flow will be less or quite turbulent. If wind fails in one sector it may blow heavily on other areas.

Overall the capacity factor is very less for renewable energy which can only be offset by covering a large area normally referred as high penetration.

Swine flu on the lighter side

Dear ALL

Few tips to fight against H1N1

1. Wash your hands regularly which applies to kids also so better have one Dettol bottle at home (I am not having any franchise with Dettol).
2. Avoid hand shake (be Indian while greeting).
3. Carry a handkerchief if you are using a tissue paper better burn it (where???) so better cloth and wash it regularly.
4. Avoid crowded place (enjoy your leave by staying at home).
5. Take adequate rest, 8 hour sleep is recommended to boost our immune system (I love this part).
6. Eat fruits, vegetables, grains keep your immune system fighting fit. (A bit expensive? Ok no other go!!)
7. Plenty of exercise. (Oh my aching back)

Symptoms & actions to be taken.

1. Have fever & cough for more than 5 days could be H1N1 (but don't wait for the 5th day you may never see it; so if you don't feel better on 2nd or 3rd day hit the Doctor).
2. Chest pain while coughing (so don't cough!!, meaning don't panic after all it could be normal cough and flu).
3. Check your nail if it turn blue could be H1N1 (So use only red or green ink, and remember to trim it off too).

If I sound a little funny forgive me, take the funny part lightly and the H1N1 seriously..

To sum up Vandhe Madharam.

H1N1 on public interest

Few seconds of your time………………..pls

In the meantime while we are getting constant caution over mailers, today a Child dies in swine flu in Chennai. His brother is also found infected now. While most of the schools are now resorting to declare holidays for some time, here are more cautions to take care of your CHILD’s health..

Besides taking some time to teach them on war footing the following principles, few more tips; “Do not show panic to the child”

For some time, we need to break the usual rules on restricting CDs on Televisions. This is this the time to engage them indoors more. Please engage them with enough CDS like kids’ movies, humorous contents so that they would not stay outdoors much. Over indulgence on TVs can be tackled always at a later time since human life is much critical than these temporary nuisances!.
1. help them to wash their hands frequently
Use the antibacterial soaps to cleanse their hands. Wash them often, at least 15 seconds and rinse with running water.
2. Put them on to enough sleep
Try to get 8 hours of good sleep every night to keep their immune system in top flu-fighting shape.
3. Drink sufficient water
Let them drink 6-8 glasses of water each day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses. Luke warm water will still be good.
4. Boost your immune system
To keep their body strong, nourished, and ready to fight infection is important in flu prevention. So stick with whole grains, green vegetables, adding enough Garlic and vitamin-rich fruits.
5. Be physically active
Spend some time with them active so that moderate exercise can support the immune system by increasing circulation and oxygenating the body. For example convince them for a brisk walking for 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week will significantly perk up immunity.
6. Know when to get help
Consult your doctor if they have a cough and fever and follow their instructions, including taking medicine as prescribed. Do not rush to health Laboratories without being prescribed by the Physician. Right now Labs are key potential pools that makes one prone to infection at this time.
07. Avoid crowded areas
Try to avoid unnecessary trips outside.
08. If your maid is sick with sneezing, please let them stay away from you for few days till the time they are found alright.

09. Avoid leaving Children in Crèches for few days till the problem settles down.
10. Tip number “10” as in introduction.
